Uric Acid Nephropathy


Above is an image of a left kidney.
A 73 year old man came in for a renal scan. He has a known case of hyperuricaemia and gout. Ultrasound revealed bilateral shrunken kidneys with echogenic medullas due to microtophi formation in the renal medullary interstitium.
